Scholarships for Junior Doctors

WHY?

Because of the decades-long humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, 33% of medical specialists had to leave the country, and so junior doctors at the forefront of medical care in state hospitals. With the vast majority of Venezuelans living below the poverty line, very few can afford private medical care. With an average salary of $75 per month and a basic food basket costing $500, many junior doctors cannot afford to continue their specialisation, forcing them to either leave the country or change careers.

How we have helped

To prevent more doctors from abandoning their careers, Healing Venezuela has been running a scholarship programme for junior doctors since 2018, providing them with a monthly allowance to continue their training. Each of them treats an average of 100 patients per month. Through this programme, we have facilitated access to medical care for over 1,500,000 patients from the poorest backgrounds. A recent survey of our graduates showed that 99% remained in the country. To date, we have helped 250 junior doctors complete their training.
