POINT OF CARE ULTRASOUNDS (POCUS)

Why?

With the deterioration of Venezuela’s public health infrastructure, much of the country’s essential medical equipment is not functional. This issue is particularly critical in emergency situations, where the absence of proper diagnostic devices can risk a patient’s life. Portable ultrasounds, known as Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), are essential diagnostic tools in modern medicine. As a relatively new technology, POCUS was previously unavailable in Venezuela.

how we have helped

In partnership with New York University (NYU), USA, and The Central University of Venezuela, we have donated 12 POCUS devices and are conducting training programmes. To date, 30 doctors have been trained, and +1,200 patients have benefited from faster and more accurate diagnoses. The programme has been so successful that POCUS is now integrated into the Internal Medicine Curriculum in Venezuela.
