Third Quarterly Report 2025

Dear Supporters,

Despite a summer of difficult headlines, your generosity reminds us that there is still great goodwill in the world. Venezuela’s crisis is slow-burning and often overlooked, but Healing Venezuela remains steadfast in serving the most vulnerable.

This report shares the impact we’ve made together — from stronger partnerships like our alliance with SOS Telemedicina in the US, to new trustees stepping up to guide our future. None of it would be possible without your loyalty and support.

Thank you for standing with Venezuela.

The Healing Venezuela Team.

We are delighted to announce that Lic. María José Castro, Dr. Alicia Green, and Lic. Anyi Vieira have joined Healing Venezuela as trustees. A few lines cannot do justice to the wealth of experience and skills they bring to the charity, but we’ll do our best.

María José Castro has been a dedicated volunteer with Healing Venezuela for more than six years. She is currently Lead Business Intelligence and Insight Analyst at Shelter UK. An economist by training, she is also an entrepreneur in the tech world and has managed large operations in Venezuela.

Dr. Alicia Green is a medical doctor with over 13 years of experience in internal medicine, nutrition, and gastroenterology. She obtained her Master’s degree at St George’s Hospital and is now a Clinical Teaching Fellow for the MSc and PGDip in Gastroenterology.

Anyi Rodríguez Vieira has a first-class honours in International Relations and Language Studies. In her current role at Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF), she coordinates and delivers inclusive initiatives that promote equity, wellbeing, and empowerment in the community.

Please join us in giving a very warm welcome to Majo, Alicia, and Anyi!

Our alliance with SOS Telemedicina continues to go from strength to strength, built on collaboration, shared learning, and a common mission: expanding access to free medical care in Venezuela.

Thanks to this partnership, Healing Venezuela Inc. in the US is funding activities that enable Venezuelan healthcare professionals to pursue specialised training and gain access to updated medical resources. These opportunities not only strengthen the skills of individual doctors but also translate into better care for thousands of patients in vulnerable communities across the country.

Beyond training, SOS Telemedicina provides a vital platform where medical professionals can stay connected, exchange knowledge, and access a wealth of resources. We encourage healthcare practitioners to explore their website: sostelemedicina.ucv.ve.

Together, we are building capacity, supporting excellence, and ensuring that even in the most difficult circumstances, Venezuelans can count on dedicated, well-prepared doctors.

“The Healing Venezuela scholarship is indispensable for me to continue with my specialization. The salary I receive doesn’t cover the costs of food, transportation, or basic supplies, yet the scholarship gives me the motivation to continue. Being part of this programme is not only about material support, but also recognition of the effort we put in every day in hospitals across the country.”
— Héctor P., Vargas Hospital

Héctor is one of 61 junior doctors we currently sponsor with a monthly scholarship of $80. Their dedication is truly admirable. During the past quarter alone, they attended 38,538 patients across eight state hospitals in Venezuela.

So far this year, thanks to your support, we have enabled access to free medical care for 104,144 patients from the most vulnerable communities in the country.

One of the most exciting new programmes we have launched is the Point of Care Portable Ultrasound (POCUS) initiative — a joint effort between Healing Venezuela, the Grossman School of Medicine at New York University, and the Razetti School of Internal Medicine in Caracas.

The project is led in Venezuela by Dr. Kate Otto Chebly, a fellow of NYU, who has adapted and translated their training with such efficiency that a recently published scientific paper reported the diagnostic accuracy of Venezuelan doctors she trained is equivalent to that of doctors trained directly at NYU.

POCUS are vital in a country where medical equipment is often poorly maintained or completely absent. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our volunteers — especially Kate — we shipped twelve additional devices to Venezuela last year, extending access to rural areas.

In the past quarter alone, around 800 patients were diagnosed using POCUS — and this is likely an underestimate, since only the most challenging cases are formally recorded.

After 13 years of closure, the Dentistry Service at Hospital Vargas in Caracas has reopened with new training programmes and a special focus on patients with disabilities and special needs — a population for whom access to oral health is often limited.

The relaunch was made possible thanks to the commitment of the hospital authorities and partner organisations, with Healing Venezuela also playing a crucial role in restoring the service.

The dentistry clinic now runs weekly disability-focused consultations and is staffed by 16 professionals, including 8 dentists, 6 of whom are specialists in disability care. In just the first six months of 2025, the team treated more than 1,300 patients, including 150 people with disabilities.

NGO, for a Family Planning Campaign Programme.

78 women who had been chosen previously through our Safe Birth Campaign in 2024, received reliable contraception — 70% with IUDs and 19% with implants — along with clear, empowering information on reproductive health. More than 10% of these women were teenagers already with children.

Despite shortages, transport challenges, and widespread misinformation, the programme provided a safe space for women, many of them breastfeeding mothers or heads of household, to take control of their health. For the first time, they gained access not only to contraceptives but also to knowledge, dignity, and hope for a safer future.

As always, we are humbled and deeply grateful for the commitment and care so many continue to show for our work. Long-standing and new volunteers alike ran in the London Landmarks Half Marathon; business entrepreneurs made generous contributions; and speakers even donated their fees to us. To all of you, a heartfelt THANK YOU!

As the giving season approaches, we once again invite you to join our GivingTuesday Campaign on December 2nd. This year, we are raising funds for our most impactful programme: the Junior Doctors Scholarship Programme.

If, after reading this report, you feel inspired to support a charity that is run entirely by volunteers — with no offices or overhead costs — this is your opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to our mission.

Until our next update, we wish you a safe, joyful, and healthy time.
